Training Workshop on The Concept and Measurement of Efficiency in Health Care

OVERVIEW

With the increasing healthcare sector cost and  accounting for a considerable proportion of national expenditures, the pursuit of efficiency has become a primary objective of policymakers within most health systems.

However, the analysis and measurement of efficiency is a complex undertaking, not least due to the multiple objectives of health care organizations and the many gaps in information systems.

This training workshop will provide an introduction to the overall concepts of           efficiency and use of techniques for measuring efficiency in healthcare.  Moreover, the participants will have the chance to know  how these two measurement tools on efficiency namely Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) are applied in health care

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the workshop the participants are expected to:

  • Understand the concept of productivity and efficiency  in health  care
  • Gain understanding on the economic theories underpinning  efficiency measurement techniques
  • Be able to apply the knowledge learned on the application of efficiency measurement in health care studies
  • Understand how casemix promotes efficiency
  • Know the results of studies on efficiency measurement in teaching hospitals in Malaysia

MY-DRG Training Workshop 12-14 Dec 2011

INTRODUCTION

The International Training Center for Casemix and Clinical Coding (ITCC) University of Kebangsaan Malaysia and United Nations University-Institute for Global Health, in partnership with  Casemix Solutions Sdn Bhd  had developed a user-friendly software and a comprehensive training modules needed for efficient and smooth implementation of casemix system better known as the MY-DRG™.

MY-DRG™ is one of its kind. It is a characterized as universal, it covers all types of patient care; dynamic, it can bear robust output; advanced grouper, it has the capability to adopt to the future changes in classification of diagnosis and            procedures.

The MY-DRG™ consists of two software namely, the MY-DRG™ Grouper v2.0 and Data Tool Pro v2.0 for diagnosis and procedures coding. Parallel to this, intensive human resource training through balanced theory and hands-on exercise is necessary for efficient and smooth use of MY-DRG™.

TRAINING WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  •       To introduce the participants to the philosophy and overall concept of casemix and MY-DRG™ in healthcare system.
  •       To inform the participants on the roles/functions of     MY-DRG™ in their workplace.
  •       To familiarize the participants on the data requirements for MY-DRG™.
  •       To train the participants on coding of diagnoses and procedures for MY-DRG™.
  •       To expose the participants to the applications of software such as Data Tool Pro and MY-DRG™ Grouper through hands-on learning.
  •       To walk-through the participants on how to process and analyse the MY-DRG™ data output.
